Part 1 consists of a single paper of 100 questions. There is one correct answer out of the three choices given for each question and the time allowed to complete the paper is 90 minutes. The subjects covered are:
Simple vehicle adaptations for disabled drivers:
A knowledge of the highway code;
A knowledge of the DSA book for ‘L’ Test candidates, The driving test:
How to interpret the ‘driving test report’:
A knowledge of basic mechanics and the design of cars adequate for the needs of driving instruction
A knowledge of the book ‘The driving manual’.

The pass mark - There is an overall pass mark of 85 per cent. However, to ensure candidates have an adequate knowledge in all of the subjects, a score of 80 percent in each band must be attained to pass.

Upon completion of each section candidates will attend a seminar where a retention test will be taken.
On completion of all four sections a ½ day seminar and mock tests under examination conditions will be conducted.
