Driving Instructor Training

Part 1 - The Theory Test

Part 1 consists of a single paper of 100 questions. There is one correct answer out of the three choices given for each question and the time allowed to complete the paper is 90 minutes. The subjects covered are:

  • The principles of road safety in general and their application in specified circumstances:
  • Correct and courteous driving techniques:

  • car control;
  • road procedure;
  • hazard recognition and proper response;
  • dealing safely with other road users and pedestrians;
  • the use of safety equipment;

  • The theory and practice of learning, teaching and assessment:
  • The tuition required to instruct a pupil in driving a car, and, as well as the above:

  • identification, analysis and correction of errors;
  • your manner and the relationship between instructor and pupil;

  • Simple vehicle adaptations for disabled drivers:

  • A knowledge of the highway code;
  • A knowledge of the DSA book for ‘L’ Test candidates, The driving test:
  • How to interpret the ‘driving test report’:
  • A knowledge of basic mechanics and the design of cars adequate for the needs of driving instruction
  • A knowledge of the book ‘The driving manual’.

    • The pass mark - There is an overall pass mark of 85 per cent. However, to ensure candidates have an adequate knowledge in all of the subjects, a score of 80 percent in each band must be attained to pass.

    Part 1 Training - The complete course material required for a successful pass, including:

  • Comprehensive Home study pack (split into the 4 core sections)
  • The Driving Manual
  • The Highway Code
  • The Driving Test
  • The Driving Instructors Handbook
  • Know your traffic signs

    • Upon completion of each section candidates will attend a seminar where a retention test will be taken.

    On completion of all four sections a ½ day seminar and mock tests under examination conditions will be conducted.

    COST - £199.00

    The only additional cost is your test fee (payable to the Driving Standards Agency). Everything else is included. There are no hidden extras.
